On 21 December, Ashish Gurung, an IFMGA-certified mountain guide, stood atop Chhuama II (6,325 m) and Chhuama I (6,366 m), mountains that had never been summited before. The achievement was further elevated by a complete summit-to-summit traverse of approximately 1,000 meters, carried out entirely in alpine style during winter, one of the most demanding approaches in modern mountaineering.
The expedition was widely recognized by the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, and leading expedition operators, highlighting its importance for the advancement of professional guiding and exploratory mountaineering in Nepal. The summit team included Jenjen Lama and Pasang Rinzee Sherpa, both highly skilled mountain guides, with strong logistical and leadership support from Anish Dahal and Ashok Nepal.
The climb followed a clean and technical alpine line, ascending the southeast face of Chhuama II, traversing westward across the ridge to Chhuama I, and descending via the south ridge of Chhuama I. Conducted in winter conditions, the ascent demanded precise judgment, technical efficiency, and complete self-reliance in a remote Himalayan environment.
This achievement reflects the core philosophy of Summit Solution Treks & Expedition. From the beginning, the company has been driven by the belief that the Himalayas still hold countless unexplored peaks, unclimbed ridges, and new possibilities for responsible adventure. While we organize commercial expeditions and classic climbs, we remain deeply committed to exploratory mountaineering, first ascents, and alpine-style objectives that push the limits of skill and preparation.
Ashish Gurung’s direct involvement in winter climbing and first ascents shapes how Summit Solution designs its expeditions, training programs, and long-term projects. His experience ensures that the company operates not only as a guiding service, but as a platform for innovation, technical excellence, and the development of future mountain leaders.
The winter first ascents of Chhuama I and Chhuama II stand as a strong example of Nepali guides leading high-level exploratory expeditions with international standards. They also highlight the growing connection between academic mountaineering education, professional guiding, and practical Himalayan exploration.
At Summit Solution Treks & Expedition, we look ahead with a clear focus on unclimbed peaks, new routes, alpine-style ascents, and exploratory projects across the Himalayas and beyond. With careful preparation, responsible ethics, and elite guiding standards, we continue to move toward objectives where maps end and possibilities begin.
Summits are not just climbed. They are understood, prepared for, and solved.
